Nothing? Or Swim? Happy New Year!

A fresh start to the new year might just include an ocean plunge...

👋 Happy Saturday, everyone! This is it—the final newsletter for 2024! I’ll be taking a short break from writing the newsletter to recharge, reflect, and come back in 2025 with even more useful (and hopefully entertaining) content. Why? Because I want to keep my promise of being your go-to guide and trusted resource for this wild, wonderful expat experience in Portugal.

But I need your help! Please take a moment to complete the survey below. As a Thank you, I’ll send you a free PDF guide comparing Portuguese beef cuts with their USA, South African, and Argentinian counterparts (plus a little shoutout for my favorite oat milk for the plant-based crowd!)

Need help reflecting on your year? I found this free resource incredibly helpful as I reevaluated 2024 and set my sights on 2025. The Yearly Review link.

As always, I’m so grateful to have you here. Thanks for sticking with me! I can’t wait to see you in the shiny, new 2025 editions of The Expat Hustle. Stay tuned 😃

Wishing you a Happy New Year and all the best for 2025! 🎊

LOST IN LINGO

Feliz Ano Novo, everyone! 🎉

Start the year right by saying "Feliz Ano Novo!" (Happy New Year) like a local with this great video from Mia Esmeriz Academy.

If you want to up your local game this new year, how about joining in on this tradition: in Madeira, they take New Year’s greetings seriously. How seriously? They dive into the Atlantic Ocean on January 1st for the Primeiro Banho do Ano (First Bath of the Year) to wash away the previous year’s sins.

Want nada (nothing) to do with that icy tradition? Fair enough! But here’s a heads-up: just take note of the similarities between nada (nothing), and nada (literally, you swim). This little mishap might just cost your buddy his final New Year’s splash…

Thanks for reading! 💌
